ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines (Mindanao Examiner / Oct. 19, 2008) - The Universal Canning Incorporated inaugurated a new facility in the southern Filipino port city of Zamboanga.
The facility included a club canning and cold storage lines and a blast freezer. Anita Kaw, UCI owner, said the new facility, inaugurated Saturday, is part of the company's expansion program.
UCI is a unit of Universal Group, one of the Philippines’ biggest fishing and canning conglomerates, which produces the popular sardine brands Family, Master, Atami and Mikado.
The UCI spent an estimated P350 million to upgrade and expand its productions for local and foreign markets.
Its new production facility has an estimated capacity of 1,800 cases per day of canned club (flat) sardines. (Erico Rosco)
