SULU, Philippines (Mindanao Examiner / June 13, 2009) – An unidentified gunman shot dead a village chieftain outside his house in the southern Philippine province of Sulu, police said on Saturday.
Police said Yusop Isnani was shot in the head late Friday. Isnani, chieftain of the village called Busbus in the capital town of Jolo, was outside his house when the lone gunman shot him at close range.
“We are still investigating the killing. We don’t know who was behind the attack,” said Chief Inspector Usman Pingay, the town’s police chief.
Isnani’s family said the slain leader had no known enemies and was loved by many villagers because of his honesty and dedication to his job. (Mindanao Examiner)
