DAVAO CITY, Philippines (Mindanao Examiner / Oct. 3, 2010) – Labor union leaders and representatives of workers associations have formed an alliance to fight for the rights of contractual workers for higher wages and benefits.
The new group called the Alyansa ng mga Mamumuo sa Davao or ALMADA said it is committed to defend the rights of the workers. It also called for the investigation of human rights violations committed against workers, the creation of workers’ desk in the villages and the passage of a local ordinance seeking the release of delayed salaries and benefits to laborers.
The alliance was spearheaded by the Nonoy Librado Development Foundation in cooperation with the City Council Committee on Labor and Employment Opportunities and Committee on Women, Children and Family relations. (With a report from Geo Solmerano)
