PAGADIAN CITY, Philippines (Mindanao Examiner / Feb. 8, 2011) – Two motorcycle gunmen shot dead a village chieftain and wounded another official in an attack in Pagadian City in the Mindanao province of Zamboanga del Sur, police said Tuesday.
Police said the gunmen fled after the weekend shooting that killed Sukarno Alam, village chieftain of Panduma in the town of Tukuran. His companion Kiram Kaida was wounded in the attack in downtown Pagadian.
The two officials were on board a jeep when the gunmen drove by their side and shot them with automatic pistols.
“Chairman Alam sustained gunshot wounds at the back of his head and at the upper back portion of his body that led to his death while Kaida was hit on his left arm and was brought to Mindero Hospital for medical treatment,” police said.
No individual or group claimed responsibility for the shootings but police said it is still investigating the motive of the attack and the identities of the gunmen. (Mindanao Examiner)
