PhilHealth celebrates 16th anniversary


ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines (Mindanao Examiner / Feb. 10, 2011) – The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation in Western Mindanao said it will commemorate its 16th founding anniversary next week with humanitarian missions and blood drive in Zamboanga City.

Also known as PhilHealth, it is a premier government corporation that ensures sustainable, affordable and progressive social health insurance which endeavors to influence the delivery of an accessible quality health care for all Filipinos.

It said the February 14 anniversary will carry the theme “PhilHealth: Tapat na Serbisyo, Sapat na Benepisyo, Lahat Panalo.”

It may be recalled that Republic Act No. 7875, as amended by Republic Act No. 9241 was enacted into law on February 14, 1995 establishing the National Health Insurance Program and creating and mandating the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation to administer it.

Regional Vice President Romeo Alberto said they will commemorate the anniversary with simple activities, among them a Eucharistic mass and stakeholders’ forums.

He also urged the locals to participate in the celebration by donating blood at its regional office in Zamboanga City.

PhilHealth members under the employed and individually paying programs, including those enrolled under the KASAPI program, and that they should have at least 9 months premium contributions payment within the immediate 12-month period before they avail of its benefits in accredited facilities.

KASAPI or Kalusugang Sigurado at Abot-Kaya sa PhilHealth Insurance is a new program undertaken by PhilHealth in response to the challenge of expanding health insurance coverage to the informal economy. (Mindanao Examiner)
