PIETA. As if a Filipino version of the masterpiece of Renaissance sculpture Michelangelo Buonarroti, Pieta, two old men beg for money outside a mall in Zamboanga City in the southern Philippines. Despite the government’s trumpeted poverty alleviation program, many of the country’s poor complain of not getting enough help and with the high cost of living and prices of basic commodities continue to rise, even hope for a good life remains an elusive dream for the poor and the working class.
