Another Indian Man Held Up In Zamboanga

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines (Mindanao Examiner / Oct. 29, 2008) – Unidentified gunmen held up an Indian businessman in Zamboanga City in the Southern Philippines, police said Wednesday.

Police said three armed men flagged down Rashid Hussani, 34, while driving his motor bike late Tuesday near Ayala village. He said the trio took his P6, 000 cash and other valuables.

Hussani, who is into financing business the past four years in Zamboanga City, said he sought police help, but authorities failed to arrest the assailants.

Last month, an Indian trader Hammed Haridun, 37, was also held up by two gunmen in the town of Mahayag in Zamboanga del Sur province.

Indian Trader Held-Up In Zamboanga Sur Province

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines (Mindanao Examiner / Oct. 21, 2008) – An Indian trader sought police help after he was held up by two gunmen in the town of Mahayag in the southern Philippine province of Zamboanga del Sur.

Police said Hammed Haridun, 37, was driving his motorbike when flagged down by two armed men on Tuesday morning on a highway. Haridun said the two men, armed with a .45-caliber pistols, took his mobile phone and P21,000 in cash.

The armed men escaped after taking the money. Police said Haridun is into buy and sell business and married to a local woman in Pagadian City. (Erico Rosco)

3 Indian Nationals Detained In Zamboanga City

ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / 09 Apr) – Philippine authorities on Monday detained three Indian nationals for illegally staying in the southern port city of Zamboanga.

Officials said the trio would be charged for violating immigration laws after failing to show their travel documents.

One of the foreigners, Karjinder Singh, said he is still applying for an extension of his stay in the country. “I am still fixing my papers and would like stay here,” Singh said.

The Indians were engaged in selling small home appliances and money-lending business for about four years now in Zamboanga. It was unknown if they have married local women.

Immigration agents said they would bring the trio to Manila for further investigations. Aside from Indians, many Koreans, Taiwanese and Chinese traders are either staying or have put up business in Zamboanga City. (Mindanao Examiner)
