KIDAPAWAN CITY (Olga Zambrano / 20 Jun) North Cotabato Gov. Emmanuel Piñol led members of the Provincial Board in witnessing firsthand the asphalting of a road project Tuesday during a dry run operation in Kidapawan City.
The crew worked on the Capitol Homes road in the village of Amas where officials lined up to see one of many infrastructure projects due to start this year. “This marks a new phase in the rural infrastructure program of the provincial government,” said Piñol.
The governor has set the asphalting of provincial roads and selected major arteries starting this year following the inauguration recently of the North Cotabato Provincial Asphalt Plant on thre village of Pag-asa in M'lang town.
“This will further boost the gains that we have achieved in the past eight years, capped by our inclusion in the list of the country’s more progressive provinces from being the 5th poorest in 1997,” Piñol said.
Engr. Demy Subaldo, asphalt plant in-charge, said the asphalt machine can pave some 8 kilometers of road in a day. “The biggest advantage it has is that the paved road is already passable after a day’s work,” he said.
Peter Salac, acting provincial engineer, said the asphalt paving is set to start its work on major provincial roads next month. "We will start with the asphalting of the Apo Sandawa Homes road in Kidapawan City,” Salac said, adding, the the project will link Kidapawan City to the towns of Makilala and Mlang in the province and would spur economy in the areas.
