AFP, Matigas Sa Pagtanggi Sa Summary Killings

MAYNILA (Mindanao Examiner / 21 Peb) - NANININDIGAN ngayon ang Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) na ang paglikida sa loob mismo ng organisasyon ng Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army (CPP-NPA) ang responsable sa insidente ng extrajudicial killings sa bansa.

Kasabay nito'y ibinasura ng militar ang pag-aangkin ng opisyal ng United Nations (UN) na naghuhugas-kamay ang AFP sa mga kaso ng pagpaslang.

Binigyang-diin ni AFP Public Information Office (PIO) Chief Lieutenant Colonel Bartolome Bacarro na may mga dokumento itong magpapatunay sa purging activities sa hanay ng komunistang grupo, lalo na sa mga rebeldeng pinaghihinalaang espiya ng pamahalaan.

"We have documents to show that indeed, in the NPA [New People's Army] there has been purging, as a matter of fact, they [rebels] have admitted that before and they have apologized to the families of their victims," ani Bacarro.

Ayaw namang barahin o direktang palagan ni Bacarro ang opinyon ni Philip Alston, UN special rapporteur, sa isyu ng political killings lalo na ang paghamon na aminin na ng militar ang mga pagpatay na lumobo sa ilalim ng administrasyong Arroyo.

"The increase in extrajudicial executions in recent years is attributable, at least in part, to a shift in the military's counter-insurgency strategy," ayon kay Alston. "In some areas, an appeal to hearts and minds is combined with an attempt to vilify left-leaning organizations and to intimidate leaders of such organizations," dagdag pa ng UN official.

Ipinunto ni Bacarro na apat lamang na tauhan ng AFP ang nasangkot sa extrajudicial killings na patuloy pa ring iniimbestigahan ng Task Force Usig ng Philippine National Police. (Juley Reyes)
