CEBU ISLAND (Mindanao Examiner / 15 Feb) – A Philippine Air Lines jet liner carrying 119 people onboard overshot an airport runway Thursday in the central Philippine city of Tacloban, authorities said.
Authorities said the Airbus A320, which came from Manila, overshot the runway at the Daniel Romualdez Airport at around 7 a.m. Television news video showed the plane stuck at the end of the runway.
The airport operation was briefly halted by the accident. “All passengers are safe and we are still determining the cause of this accident,” said PAL spokesman Rolando Estabillo, adding, the plane was carrying 113 passengers and six crew members.
The Airbus A320 is a short-to-medium range commercial passenger aircraft manufactured by EADS (Airbus S.A.S).
The A320 pioneered the use of digital fly-by-wire flight control systems in a commercial aircraft. With more than 2800 built since 1988, it is the second best selling jet airliner family of all time, after the Boeing 737, its closest rival. (Mindanao Examiner)
