Violence Kills 2 In Davao, Digos In South RP

DAVAO CITY (Mindanao Examiner / 06 Mar) – Two persons were killed in separate violence in the southern Filipino port city of Davao and nearby Digos City, police said.

Police said an 18-year old man was stabbed dead by his elder brother during a heated argument Monday inside their house in the village of San Isidro in Kaputian district.

The attacker, police said, had been arrested after neighbors sought the help of authorities. Police said the two brothers were both drank at the time of the quarrel.

A 16-year old student, who had been earlier arrested, but later freed by police, was also stabbed dead by two young men inside an internet café in a daring attack witnessed by several people on Monday.

Police said Jovanni Dumandal was playing computer when two men, armed with knives, entered the café and suddenly attacked him. Police earlier arrested Dumanda on robbery charges, but released him later because he was a minor.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack. Hundreds of suspected criminals and felons had been executed in Davao City over the years and police blamed the vigilante group called the Davao Death Squad. But many relatives and families of those slain believed the authorities were behind the extra-judicial killings.
