RP Troops Clashed With Reds In South

SARANGANI (Mindanao Examiner / 06 Jun) – Security forces clashed with communist insurgents Thursday in the southern Philippine province of Sarangani, officials said.

Officials said the fighting erupted in the village of Datal Anggas in Alabel town after patrolling troops ran into a group of New People’s Army rebels.

There were no reports of military casualties, said Lt. Col. Rolando Joselito Bautista, of the Army’s 10th Infantry Division.

“There was no casualty on the government side while an undetermined number of enemies are killed or wounded as evidenced by the bloodstains in the encounter site,” he said.

The NPA is the armed wing of the outlawed Communist Party of the Philippines which is fighting the past four decades for the establishment of a Maoist state in the country. (With a report from Romy Bwaga)
