DAVAO CITY (Mindanao Examiner / 03 Jul) – The Philippine Army’s 10th Infantry Division shooters emerged as winners in two categories in the 2nd PNP-AFP Cup Invitational Level-1 Pistol Shooting Competition held in the southern city of Davao.
1st. Lt. Rosa Ma. Cristina Manuel said the army shooters excelled in the team event competition over the Naval Forces Eastern Mindanao. The competition was recently held at the headquarters of the Police Regional Office 11 shooting range in Camp Catitipan, she said.
The 10th Infantry team was composed of Lt. Col. Alexander Ambal, Maj. Romeo Cabanalan, 1st Lt. Raul Verceles, 2nd. Lt. Philmer Fernandez and MSgt. Hipolito Rubio.
Ambal won the Steel Challenge Event against Lt. Col. Alan Luga, commander of the Army’s Task Force Davao.
“The activity was participated by various pistol shooting enthusiasts from the AFP, PNP and civilians from the different parts of Mindanao Island. They showed their skills and agility during the competition aimed to outdo other shooters for them to receive awards in recognition of their effort,” Manuel said.
She said Maj. Gen. Ernesto Boac, commander of the 10th Infantry Division, commended the army shooters for maintaining a highly proficient marksmanship skills and tenacity to perform extremely well in the competition.
“He likewise encouraged other soldiers to continually practice and participate in shooting competitions to hone their skills in reacting to possible armed threat,” she said. (Mindanao Examiner)
