JOLO, Philippines (Mindanao Examiner / Oct. 7, 2008) – Police have arrested two men who were wounded after an improvise explosive they had planted at a village in the remote Pandami island in the southern Philippines province of Sulu went off prematurely, police said Tuesday.
Provincial police chief Julasirim Kasim said the two – Hadnan Aluk and Nassal Hajibudin - are facing criminal charges over the failed attack Friday on the island.
He said two planted the bomb near the house of Antil Ulangutan, but it exploded prematurely and wounding them. “The two men are now in police custody, but they are still recuperating from their wounds,” Kasim told the Mindanao Examiner.
He said the failed attack was connected to a family feud. Sporadic clashes, he said, were also reported last week between the protagonists.
“Everything is under control. We have beefed up police security in the area to prevent the escalation of hostilities between feuding families,” Kasim said.
Kasim said the two men were also implicated in previous bombing in Pandami that wounded several people. “The feud is connected to politics,” he said without elaborating further. (Mindanao Examiner)
