Basilan Police Alerted Over Escape Of Sayyaf Terrorist

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines (Mindanao Examiner / Oct. 7, 2008) – Police in the southern province of Basilan have been alerted after a captured Abu Sayyaf militant implicated in a deadly attack on Philippine Congress mysteriously escaped from government custody in Manila.

Ikram Indama, a notorious militant based in Basilan, was reported missing on Monday from the custody of the Criminal Investigation and detection Group where he is being held in connection with the bombing in November last year that killed Rep. Wahab Akbar and several other employees.

Akbar, a native of Basilan, was the target of the bombing, police said.

Indama, who was captured in his hideout in Manila along with several others who are all native of Basilan, later confessed that a defeated politician from province had masterminded the attack. (Mindanao Examiner)
