Western Peninsula bloc formed: The Manila Bulletin


DAPITAN CITY, Philippines – Elected leaders based in the provinces, cities, and municipalities covering the geographical section of Western Mindanao recently formed a new political alliance which primarily seeks to hasten the region’s socio-economic growth and welfare, promote more harmonious relations among its populace, and work for better peace and order condition in the area.

Known as Western Peninsula, the new power bloc was jointly organized during a special conference at the Dakak Park and Beach Resort by Zamboanga del Sur (ZamSur) Gov. Antonio H. Cerilles, Zamboanga del Norte (ZaNorte) Gov. Rolando Yebes, Zamboanga Sibugay (ZamSib) Gov. Rommel Jalosjos, and Misamis Occidental (MisOc) Gov. Herminia Ramiro through the initiative of former Rep. Romeo G. Jalosjos (2nd District, ZaNorte).

The meeting was attended by other top leaders in the area including ZamSur Reps.

Aurora Enerio-Cerilles and Victor Yu, ZaNorte Reps. Cesar Jalosjos and Seth Jalosjos, MisOc Rep. George Almonte, ZamSib Reps. Romeo Jalosjos Jr. and Jonathan Cabilao-Yambao, Kakusa Party-list Rep. Ranulfo Canonigo and about 500 provincial, city, and town officials of the four provinces.

The former solon admitted that Zamboanga City, former regional seat of the government of Zamboanga Peninsula, was excluded from the group owing largely to its remote distance from the center of the Western Peninsula.

Meanwhile, Gov. Cerilles and his spouse Rep. Aurora E. Cerilles expressed optimism that the formation of the Western Peninsula group will go a long way in accelerating the progress and development of various local government units in the area and ultimately raising the qualify of life of its growing population.
