COTABATO CITY, Philippines (Mindanao Examiner / July 9, 2011) – Police captured two gunmen who allegedly shot dead a cop and wounded two others in an attack in North Cotabato province in the southern Philippine.

The two were arrested after they killed a policeman and injured his wife and another man late Friday. The policeman was talking to his wife and the man in their house in Ponte Vedra village in Antipas town when the two assailants opened fire on them.

The motive of the attack is still unknown and police said it is investigating whether the attackers are members of the local communist rebel group called New People’s Army.

The rebel group, which is actively operating in the province, did not say whether it was involved in the attack or not. The New People’s Army has been fighting for decades for the establishment of a Maoist state in the country. (Mindanao Examiner)
