ILIGAN CITY, Philippines (Mindanao Examiner / Aug. 16, 2011) – A Filipino child, who was poisoned along with two other siblings, in an apparent murder-suicide, has died in hospital in the southern Philippines.
The two other children and their father remain under observation in Cagayan de Oro City in northern Mindanao where the crime occurred.
Police said the 35-year old father, Joel Janulino, poisoned the children after he quarreled with his wife, Claire, who was working in Manila. Janulino then took the cocktail of rat poison mixed with chocolate and drank it.
Relatives and neighbors rushed to the family house after seeing the children crying in pain and vomiting and rushed all them to the hospital. One of the children later died.
Police said Janulino wanted his wife to come home, but the woman declined saying her work prevented her from travelling to Mindanao. Janulino also accused his wife of seeing another man. (Mindanao Examiner)
