Philippines declares Eid’l Fitr a holiday


ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines (Mindanao Examiner / Aug. 16, 2011) – President Benigno Aquino declared August 30 as non-working holiday in respect to the celebration of the Eid’l Fitr which signals the end of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.

“To promote cultural understanding and integration, the entire Filipino nation should have the full opportunity to join their Muslim brothers and sisters in the observance and celebration of Eid’l Fitr,” Aquino said in a proclamation he signed. (Mindanao Examiner)
