Palayaain ang mga political prisoners

DAVAO CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Sept. 30, 2011) – Muling umapela kay Pangulong Benigno Aquino ang mga pamilya at kaanak ng mga political prisoners sa bansa para sa kanilang agarang paglaya sa likod ng mga maling paratang laban sa kanila.

Suportado naman ito ng mga ibat-ibang human rights groups sa Mindanao at sinabing malaki umano ang magiging kontribusyon ng paglaya ng mga political detainees sa peace talks ng pamahalaan sa National Democratic Front.

Ito rin ang hiling ng NDF sa pamahalaang Aquino bilang bahagi ng confidence-building sa peace process. Subali’t Naunang sinabi ni Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda na wala umanong political detainees sa bansa.

“We would like to remind President Benigno Aquino that his father Benigno Sr was once a political prisoner during fascist Marcos regime. Does this administration follow the militarist and inhumane acts of President Marcos?”

“President Aquino’s policies resemble that of the late dictator - incarceration of political activists who are merely fighting for justice and genuine reforms in our society,” ani Ching Montajes, ang convenor ng Task Force Maricon Montajes na kanya naman anak at ngayon ay nakapiit sa bilangguan.

Kabilang ang anak nito sa mga dinakip ng militar nuong Hunyo 3, 2010 sa Taysan, Batangas dahil sa diumano’y kaso ng illegal possession of explosives, paglabag sa Omnibus Election Code, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, at frustrated homicide.

Ngunit lahat umano ng mga kaso ay pawang imbento lamang ng militar upang idiin si Maricon na pinaghihinalaang miyembro ng rebeldeng New People’s Army. Isang estudyante ng Film at miyembro lamang ng College Editor’s Guild ito, ayon sa kanyang ina.

“President Aquino should emulate his mother Cory’s peace effort when she granted the unconditional release of all political prisoners after Martial Law. If Noynoy granted amnesty to some 400 rebel soldiers, why can’t he extend amnesty to the political prisoners now?” tanong pa ni Ching.

Sinabi naman ni Leo Binoya, Sr., ang lider ng grupong Kalumonan, na matagal ng nakapiit ang mga political detainees dahil sa kung anu-anong mga bintang laban sa kanila. Tulad ni Ching, nasa bilangguan rin ang anak nitong si Leo Jr matapos na dakpin ng mga sundalo sa Compostela Valley province halos apat na taon na ang nakalipas dahil sa hinalang rebelde ito.

“Our poverty, the injustices we experienced as farmers who almost had nothing to eat, led my son to fight for equity and justice. He believed that change was also necessary. These beliefs led him to the cause he was being jailed for. It is not fair for him to be called a common criminal,” wika pa nito.

Isa lamang si Leo Jr sa 24 na political prisoners sa southern Mindanao, ayon pa kay Leo Sr. na consultant naman ng NDF peace panel.

Ang grupo nito ay pawang kinabibilangan ng mga pamilya ng political detainees sa naturang rehiyon.

Maging ang Samahan ng mga Ex-Detainees Laban sa Detensyon at Aresto (SELDA) sa Southern Mindanao, ay nakiisa na rin sa panawagan kay Aquino na palayain sa lalong madaling panahon ang mga political detainees at ng mabigyan sila ng hustisya sa mga maling paratang ng militar at pulisya.

Ayon sa SELDA ay nakapiit ang 360 political detainees at kabilang rito ang 14 na consultant ng NDF peace panel.

“If the Aquino administration is true to its words in trudging the “daang matuwid” and sincerity to the peace talks with the National Democratic Front of the Philippines, it should have rectified its injustices towards the political prisoners and victims of human rights violations,” ani Fe Salino, ang tumatayong Secretary-General ng SELDA sa Mindanao.

“General means all political dissenters who were arrested, charged or detained for common crimes but in fact are alleged acts in pursuit of one’s political convictions should be released. Unconditional means no precondition shall be set before their release,” dagdag pa nito. (Mindanao Examiner)
