Remittance ng Pinoy seamen aabot sa P4-B ngayon

MANILA (Mindanao Examiner / Oct. 2, 2011) – Inaasahang aabot sa mahigit P4 bilyon ang remittances ngayon taon ng mga Pinoy seamen sa abroad.

Ito ay ayon na rin sa forecast ng Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) dahil ang mga Pinoy pa rin ang siyang pangunahing paborito ng mga shipping companies.

Masisipag at magagaling umano ang mga Pinoy seamen.

“The Philippines has secured its position as the world’s preferred supplier of able ship staff,” ani Ernesto Herrera, ang TUCP Secretary-General.

Halos P3,500 mga seaman umano ang nagpaparehistro bawat buwan sa Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) kung kaya’t hinikayat ni Herrera ang pamahalaang Aquino na lalong paigtingin ang pagpapadala ng mga seaman at iba pang mga skilled professionals upang magtrabaho sa mga foreign vessels.

Nabatid pa na mula Enero hanggang Hulyo nitong taon ay nagakapgpadala na ang mga Pinoy seaman ng $2.433 bilyon at mas mataas ito ng 14.13% o $301 milyon kung ihahambing sa nakaraang taon.

Ayon naman sa talaan ng POEA ay nakapag-proseso ito ng 280,348 sea-based workers mula Enero hanggang Hulyo rin at mas mataas pa ng 5% sa nakaraang taon.

“Sailors accounted for nearly one-fourth of the 1,470,826 workers the Philippines deployed abroad in the whole of 2010. In the 12 months of 2010, a total of 347,150 Filipino sailors were deployed to 2,496 foreign ships. This was 16,726, or five percent, greater than the 330,424 sailors set out to 2,340 boats in 2009,” ani Herrera sa kanyang talaan.

Karamihan sa mga seaman nasa mga cruise liners, bulk carriers, container vessels, oil, gas, chemical at product tankers; gayun rin sa general cargo ships; tugboats; at car containers.

“They sent home a total of $3.806 billion in the 12 months of 2010, up $406 million or 12 percent from the $3.4 billion they remitted via the banking system in 2009,” ayon pa kay Herrera. (Mindanao Examiner)
