Police Arrest Gun Runner In South RP

DAVAO CITY (Mindanao Examiner / 07 Jun) – Philippine police arrested on Thursday an alleged gun runner in a sting operation in the southern province of Compostela Valley.

Police said the 47-year old Alex Bagas was arrested after he sold a homemade shotgun to an undercover cop in the village of Maunwagon in Maragusan town.

The locals tipped off authorities about the man’s illegal gun factory, police said.

Policemen also seized assorted weapons from the factory, from shotguns to M203 grenade launchers and various gun parts.

It was unknown if the man was selling weapons to rebels and criminal gangs in the province. (Romy Bwaga)

Paglabag Sa Gunban, Lumulobo!

MANILA (Mindanao Examiner / 07 May) – Umakyat na sa mahigit 2,000 katao ang naaresto sa buong bansa ng Philippine National Police (PNP) bunsod ng paglabag sa umiiral na gunban ng Commission on Elections (Comelec).

Sa rekord ng pulisya, tinatayang 719 indibidwal ang kinasuhan habang mahigit 1,000 ang kasalukuyan pang iniimbestigahan. Umaabot naman sa 1, 679 ang mga nakumpiskang ilegal na armas mula noong Enero kung saan ay pinakamarami o 329 ay buhat sa Calabarzon, 269 sa National Capital Region at 130 sa Western Visayas.

Kabilang sa mga nasamsam ay 59 na granada, 53 improvised explosives at 281 bladed weapons bilang bahagi ng Oplan Panlalansag ng pambansang pulisya.

May 125 insidente ng karahasan ang naitala sa pagsisimula ng campaign period at 36 rito ang kumpirmadong may kinalaman sa eleksyon. (Juley Reyes)
