1 Killed, 10 Wounded in Jolo Attack

ZAMBOANGA CITY (Zamboanga Journal / 06 Apr) Unidentified gunmen opened fire Thursday on a passenger jeep in the southern Philippine island of Jolo, killing a Muslim woman and wounding as many as 10 people, reports said.

It said the gunmen onboard another jeep fired on the victims near Asturia village shortly before 2 p.m. One of the wounded died while being treated at a hospital in Jolo.
It was unknown if there were children or other women among the passengers or whether the attack was connected to family feud, which is common on the island.

Police said no group claimed responsibility for the ambush, but radio reports in Jolo said the attackers fled after the strafing the jeep.

Vendetta killing is common in the southern Philippines and fighting between protagonists sometimes lasts for years and even decades, until a pact is reached or blood money is paid by both sides.
