ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / 03 Dec) – Two young Muslim men believed victims of summary execution were recovered Sunday by fishermen from a boat drifting near Sacol Island, several nautical miles off Zamboanga City in the southern Philippines, an army commander said.
Colonel Antonio Supnet said the bodies were believed victims of a clan war. “That’s the report we got from the islanders, but we are still investigating this incident,” he told the Mindanao Examiner.
The victims were believed to be Muslim natives from Basilan island, who migrated to Zamboanga City, Supnet said, quoting intelligence reports.
He said fishermen found the boat drifting and were shocked to see the bodies. No groups or individual claimed responsibility for the killings, but Supnet said troops were sent to the island to investigate.
Family feud or clan war are common in the strife-torn region, where fighting between protagonists sometimes could last for months and years or even decades until blood money is paid and settlement has been agreed among the warring groups. (Mindanao Examiner)
