Police Tighten Security In Marawi City After Attack

MAGUINDANAO (Mindanao Examiner / 04 Apr) – Police tightened security Wednesday after a failed assassination attempt on an election official in the southern Philippines.

Police said unidentified men tossed two grenades at the house of Diana Titiban in Marawi City on Tuesday. One grenade exploded, but police said no one was killed or injured in the attack.

It was unknown if the attack had anything to do with Titiban’s job as election officer of Marawi City. The attack occurred as local candidates begin their campaign for the May 14 national elections.

No group or individual claimed responsibility for the blast and police said it is still investigating the motive of the attack.

Police said Titiban was sleeping inside the house at the time of the attack. Marawi is a 3rd class city and capital of Lanao del Sur province. (Mark Navales)
