2 Cops Shot Dead In South RP Island


ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines (Mindanao Examiner / Jan. 09, 2008) – Two policemen were killed on Wednesday while jogging in the southern Philippine province of Sulu, reports said.

Reports said the pair was shot by two gunmen who pretended to be joggers in the middle of the airport runway near three military bases in Jolo town shortly before 6 a.m. The gunmen escaped on foot after the attack.

The bodies of the policemen were taken away by their relatives. Both policemen were Muslims assigned to a police detachment in the village of Busbus near the airport.

The strip is a favorite area of joggers, mostly soldiers and policemen, although civilians also used the runway to exercise.

No group or individual claimed responsibility for the killings and it was unknown if the attacks were connected to their work or feud.
