Reds Demand Manila To Abide By Agreement Before Peace Talks Can Resume
ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines (Mindanao Examiner / May 17, 2008) – The National Democratic Front of the Philippines on Saturday demanded that Manila complies with agreements it previously signed with communist rebels.
The NDFP, political wing of the outlawed Communist Party of the Philippines, ended a three-day informal meeting with Filipino peace negotiators in Norway which brokered the talks.
“We are pleased with the opportunity provided by this informal meeting to exchange views with regards to the impediments that must be overcome for the formal meetings to resume,” said Luis Jalandoni, chief NDFP peace negotiator.
The NDFP praised the Royal Norwegian Government for making possible the meeting between peace negotiators aimed at finding ways of resuming talks stalled since 2004 after rebel leaders accused Manila of reneging its agreements with the CPP.
The informal talks were held from May 13-15m but Jalandoni said the Filipino peace panel failed to come with solutions that will lead to the resumption of the negotiations.
“The NDFP delegation expressed its strong desire for the resumption of the formal meetings and took pains to persuade the GRP (Government of the Republic of the Philippines) delegation to do away with said impediments.”
“It is unfortunate that the GRP delegation did not bring any idea towards the resolution of any problems that impedes the resumption of the formal meetings,” he said, adding, his group presented 13 impediments that must be overcome before formal peace talks could resume.
Jalandoni said among the impediments are the terrorist tag by the United States and the European Union, on Manila’s prodding, of the NDFP chief political consultant Prof. Jose Maria Sison, the CPP and the NPA; the illegal “suspension” of the Joint Agreement on Safety and Immunity Guarantees (JASIG).
And also the Oplan Bantay Laya and the consequent gross and systematic violations of human rights; the persecution, murder, arrest and enforced disappearance of NDFP consultants; the demand for capitulation of the NDFP to the GRP in the guise of prolonged ceasefire before addressing the fundamental problems of Philippine society and the roots of the armed conflict; and the failure to indemnify the victims of human rights violations under the Marcos regime.
“We stressed that overcoming these impediments is not a precondition but an obligation of the Arroyo government to comply with the agreements it has signed with the NDFP,” Jalandoni said.
The Philippine Army said it would abide by the decisions of the government as far as the possibility of the resumption of the peace talks with rebels.
“We will follow the decision of our political leaders. Whatever would be the outcome of these talks (with the NDFP), we will abide like a true soldier that we are,” Major Raymundo Aguada, a regional army spokesman, told the Mindanao Examiner.
But many soldiers in the southern Philippines are disgruntled by the news that Manila is trying to reopen peace talks with communist rebels, saying, it the NPA will only use the negotiations to recruit and strengthen its forces.
“This has been a cycle already. All presidents of this forsaken country had tried everything and failed to bring back peace, but the NPA remains defiant and victorious and all it wanted is to topple this democratic government and install a dictatorial government.”
“There should be no peace with rebels who waged war and sow terror through out all these years,” said a local army soldier, who asked not to be named for fear that he would be reprimanded by his commander for speaking to the media about the peace talks.
Government soldiers are not allowed in the Philippines to speak out about their feelings or opinion, especially if it concerns national interests or government decisions.
The NPA is the military wing of the CPP, which the Philippine military said was founded in the 1968 by Sison, who is living in exile in The Netherlands since 1987.
Sison was arrested by the Dutch police on charges of masterminding the killings of two former NPA rebel leaders Romulo Kintanar and Arturo Tabara, but had been subsequently freed.
Since its founding, the CPP has been fighting for the establishment of a Maoist state in the Philippines.
Aside from the communist rebels, Manila is also negotiating peace with a Muslim separatist guerrilla group called the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), which has also accused the government of reneging on its commitment to grant them ancestral lands in Mindanao.
The seven-year old peace talks with the MILF have been stalled since last year and are now threatening the fragile truce and security in the southern region. (Mindanao Examiner)

NLG Denounces Arrest of Communist Party of the Philippines Founder: Report
NEW YORK - Jose Maria Sison, founder of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP), was arrested in The Netherlands by the Dutch police allegedly for two executions enacted by the New People's Army half a globe away.
Sison's arrest Aug. 28 also served as a pretext to raid his colleagues’ homes and the office of the National Democratic Front (NDF).
Sison is accused of ordering the killings in 2003 and 2004 of Romulo Kintanar and Arturo Tabara, ex-CPP leaders, who, according to the Public Prosecutor's Office, were gunned down in the Philippines, on Sison's command.
Sison has denied any operational role with the New People's Army rebels since leaving the Philippines in 1986, and calls himself a political consultant for the Dutch-based NDF of the Philippines, which has been involved in off-and-on peace negotiations for many years with Manila.
A staff member of the NDF's negotiating team dismissed the allegations against Sison for the murders saying "They are all fabricated charges."
The New Patriotic Alliance, or Bayan, condemned the arrest of Sison and raids on his group's offices as attacks on civil liberties.
“This bodes ill for the peace process," the group said. "The arrest was most probably undertaken with the knowledge and prodding of the (Gloria Macapagal) Arroyo government which is out to sabotage all hopes for peace talks."
Gabriela Network (GABNet), the Philippine-US women's solidarity mass organization, denounced the arrest as an extension of the Macapagal-Arroyo government's policy of political repression of Filipinos working and living in countries abroad.
GABNet characterized the arrest as yet another attempt by the Macapagal-Arroyo government, in cooperation and in subservience to imperialist globalization, to stifle the patriotic concerns of 10 million overseas Filipinos and solidarity allies of the Philippine people's movement.
The Sison arrest is yet another example of the ongoing assault by the Arroyo regime on the people's right to dissent and to organize.
This assault has seen nearly a thousand men and women murdered; rebellion charges filed against members of Philippine Congress; and three NLG lawyers (among others on a "terrorist watchlist") linked to the Taliban by the Philippine government.
The baseless accusations and now the arrest of the exiled founder of the CPP, Jose Maria Sison are just further evidence of trumped up war against those who challenge the Arroyo regime and reinforce the need to stop the repression now.
The NLG urges the Dutch government to free Jose Ma. Sison and drop all charges against this beloved people's leader.
“We call on those in the U.S. to express their condemnation of the arrest and solidarity with the people’s movement in the Philippines by joining rallies, sending letters and faxes to the Dutch embassy and joining in the on-going discourse on the legality of the Dutch action in the context of international law and governance.“
The National Lawyers Guild, founded in 1937, is a progressive bar association in the United States working in the service of the people. Its national office is headquartered in New York and it has chapters in nearly every state, as well as over 100 law school chapters.

Armed Forces, Duda Kay CPP Founder Joma Sison!
MANILA (Mindanao Examiner / 03 Jun) – Malaki ang duda ang Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) sa pag-aangkin ni Communist Party of the Philippines founding chairman Jose Ma. Sison na hindi na ito konektado sa rebeldeng New People’s Army (NPA) at sa sariling organisasyon.
Sinabi sa pahayagang Mindanao Examiner ni AFP spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Bartolome Bacarro na ipinahayag lamang ni Sison ang naturang pagdistansya sa CPP at NPA, gayun rin sa National Democratic Front of the Philippines upang protektahan ang sarili nito, ngunit matibay pa rin ang impormasyon ng militar na nananatil itong lider ng organisasyon.
"This was done to protect himself but basically what the information that we have on the ground is that he is still recognized as the top leader of the CPP-NPA," ani Bacarro.
Una nang inaangkin ni Sison na 29 na taon na siyang wala sa komunistang samahan ngunit sinabi ni Bacarro na may mga dokumento silang hawak na aktibo pa rin si Sison sa CPP-NPA.
Kahit aniya itinanggi ni Sison na siya ang nagpapakilalang "Armando Liwanag", naniniwala ang militar na kinikilalang lider ito ng mga gerilya at patuloy pa ring nagbibigay ng mga kautusan.
Kasabay nito, ipinauubaya na lamang ng AFP sa European Union kung tuluyang maihahanay sa mga terorista si Sison.Hinamon rin ni Bacarro si Sison kung talagang hindi na kabilang sa CPP-NPA ay kusa itong bumalik ng Pilipinas at harapin ang mga kaso. (Juley Reyes)

Ara Mina Nakipagsayaw Sa Komunista; AFP Umalma!
MANILA (Mindanao Examiner / 02 Mar) - PINALAGAN ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) ang ginagawang pagpapasarap ni National Democractic Front (NDF) leader Jose Ma. Sison sa Netherlands habang naghihirap ang mga miyembro ng komunistang grupo sa kabundukan.
Tinukoy kanina ni AFP Public Information Office Chief Lieutenant Colonel Bartolome Bacarro ang website ni Sison (www.josemariasison.org) na naglalahad ng mga larawan kung saan ay nakikipagsayaw pa sa artistang si Ara Mina ang communist leader.
May larawan rin ang mang-aawit at artistang si Janno Gibbs kasama sina Ara, Sison at NDF panel chief negotiator Louie Jalandoni na kinuha sa isang Christmas party noong nakaraang taon.
Binigyang-diin ni Bacarro na habang nagsasakripisyo at nagtitiis sa gutom ang mga rebeldeng nakikipagsagupa sa militar, relaks na relaks at maginhawa ang buhay ng kanilang lider.
"Yung mga tao nila sa ibaba ay naghihirap dahil sa naniniwalang may ipinaglalaban, samantalang si Sison ay nag-eenjoy sa buhay at ang lahat ng amenities ay nasa kanya," ani Bacarro.
Wala naman aniya sanang masama kung may social life si Sison subalit hindi na nito kailangang ipagyabang pa na tanda na hindi sensitibo ito sa kalagayan ng mga miyembro.
"I pity them. They should challenge him. There's nothing wrong with enjoying social life but he should not boast it. Maybe, nag-e-ego tripping sya," dagdag ng opisyal.
Idineklarang terorista si Sison ng Estados Unidos at European Union.
Agad namang dumipensa si Bacarro sa pagkukumpara sa gawain ni Sison sa mga lider ng AFP na nagpapasarap rin habang tinutugis ng mga sundalo nito ang mga bandido at rebelde.
Hindi naman agad makunan ng reaksyon ang CPP ukol sa batikos ng AFP. Ngunit ayon sa mga supporters ni Sison sa Mindanao ay inggit lamang umano ang militar dahil mas magandang lalaki diumano ang CPP leader kaysa Gen. Hermogenes Esperon, ang AFP Chief of Staff.

Jose Maria Sison Versions Of Italian Partisan Song & Andres Bonifacio's Own Now On YouTube

MANILA (Mindanao Examiner / 01 Feb) – A song by Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) founder Jose Maria “Joma” Sison has been posted on YouTube and so far gathered almost 4,000 views in just over 3 months.
Sison sung the Italian partisan song, Bella Ciao, (http://www.youtube.com/v/3IZ31IZ339A) in Spanish version and Filipino interpretation. A guitar accompanied his version of the World War II song. Aside from Bella Ciao, he also sung the Filipino revolutionary “Pag-ibig sa Tinubuang Lupa” (http://www.youtube.com/v/iJ3qeaIu-7w) by national hero Andres Bonifacio.
Bella Ciao, which runs for 3 minutes and 46 seconds, drew various comments from pro-Sison supporters to anti-communist advocates.
YouTube is a popular Web video sharing site that lets anyone store short videos for private or public viewing.
One comment from a Sison supporter, who goes by the alias “revenger64”, had this posted on YouTube: “Mabuhay si Ka Joma! Xa ang tunay na bayaning Pilipino! Ituloy ang laban sa makalumang naghaharing sistema! Rebelyon ang tunay na buhay ng mga Pilipino sa panahon ng krisis at pagsasamantala! Wakasan ang lumang at sinungaling na demokrasyang naghahari sa lipunan, palitan ng tunay at makamasang demokrasya!”
But emilio1969, an anti-Sison, said: Communism is dead! Get over it and get a life! If you truly love the Filipino masses go home and fight in the Philippines. Do not hide in Europe and live comfortable life while your comrades are eating coconuts for breakfast and guavas for dinner. Pabigat ka lang sa Dutch government. Mahiya ka naman!
Sison is currently living in exile in The Netherlands. The CPP’s armed wing, the New People’s Army is fighting in the Philippines for the establishment of a Maoist state.
Both the CPP and NPA and their political group, the National Democratic Front were listed as foreign terrorist organizations on Manila’s prodding after the peace talks collapsed in 2004. (Mindanao Examiner)
