DAVAO CITY (Mindanao Examiner / 11 Mar) – The Philippine military on Sunday warned troops to stay vigilant following intelligence reports that communist insurgents would mount random attacks in the strife-torn southern region of Mindanao.
Police were also alerted over the reports that New People’s Army rebels have been deployed to assassinate policemen and soldiers.
Army Lt. Gen. Rodolfo Obaniana, chief of the Eastern Mindanao Command, said soldiers and cops have been targeted for assassination.
Obaniana has ordered fresh offensive against the NPA, blamed for attacks on security forces in the southern Philippines.
The NPA is fighting for the establishment of communist state in the country. (Romy Bwaga)
