COTABATO CITY (Mindanao Examiner / 08 Jun) – At least six more people were rushed to hospital Friday bringing to eleven the number of injured in the bombing of commuter bus in the southern Philippines.
The explosion occurred in the town of Matalam in North Cotabato province. Authorities said the blast occurred at around 12.35 p.m.
The bus, owned by People's Transit Corporation, was bound for Davao City, when the bomb exploded.
Ten of those wounded have been identified as Roy Firma, 28; Therese Balcita, 37; Gilbert Tejero, 21; Raul Saholga, 30; Jessilyn Bernalte; Alver dela Peña, 28; Catherine Aitillado, 27; Jeffery Alcade, 21; Milbert Helbolingo; and Ricardo Dordas.
The bombing occurred just a week after the United States warned its citizens of possible terror attacks in the restive region, where security forces are battling the al-Qaeda-linked Abu Sayyaf and Jemaah Islamiya militants. (With a report from Juley Reyes)
