Philippine actor fatally shot by village watchman who mistook him for a real assassin.
MANILA, Philippines - A village watchman in the central Philippines allegedly mistook an actor playing a masked gunman in a British film for a real assassin and fatally shot him, police said Monday.
Watchman Eddie Cuizon tried to accost Filipino actor Kirk Abella late Saturday then shot him as the actor was directed to speed away on a motorcycle with a masked driver, said community police chief Alexis Relado of central Cebu city's Parian district.
Cuizon, 52, told police he was sleeping and was woken up by a concerned citizen who reported the presence of armed men in his community.
He told police he saw two masked men on a motorcycle and approached them but they sped away and he stumbled as he tried to stop them, injuring his knee. He fired at Abella when the actor pulled out a gun, which turned out to be made of plastic, Relado said.
Many street killings in the Philippines, including those of political activists and journalists, have been perpetrated by motorcycle-riding gunmen.
Abella, 32, was one of the actors in the movie "Going Somewhere," being shot by British theater and film director Alan Lyddiard in Cebu, Relado said.
Lyddiard's website says the movie is about a fictional documentary filmmaker's travails in Cebu, where he plans to make a movie about the first circumnavigation of the world by Ferdinand Magellan, whose voyage to the Philippines led to its colonization by Spain. Magellan was killed by a native chief on Mactan island near Cebu in 1521.
Lyddiard and members of his crew, including a Filipino woman who had arranged for police assistance with traffic and crowd control in Parian, could not be reached for comment.
Cuizon will be charged with homicide and for violation of a gun ban, Relado said. (Associated Press)

Ama tangay ang anak, tumalon sa balon sa Cebu!
ISANG AMA ang umano’y nawala sa pagiisip matapos na mamatay sa panganganak ang sariling asawa, ngunit ang matindi nito ay tumalon sa isang balon ang lalaki bitbit ang bagong silang na sanggol sa Cebu, ayon sa mga ulat.
Mabuti umano at natagpuan ang amang si Romoo Tambo-boy, 35, at ang kanyang anak matapos ng halos 16 oras na paghahanap. Naganap umano ang incident nuong nakaraang Sabado sa Poblacion ng bayan ng San Remigio, ayon sa pulisya at sa ibang ulat kahapon.
Nabatid lamang na nawawala na ang ama at ang sanggol ng magtungo sa himpilan ng pulisya ang ina ni Romeo at humingi ng tulong na mahanap ang dalawa.
Laking gulat naman ng lahat ng makita ang mag-ama sa balon at hinang-hina na. Mabuti umano at walang tubig ang balon at hindi namatay ang sanggol. Agad naman isinugod sa pagamutan ang dalawa.
Posible umano nasiraan ng bait ang lalaki dahil sa naganap sa asawang mahal na mahal umano.

Youths drawn into online sexual exploitation in the Philippines
CEBU, Philippines – In a poor shanty in the Central Philippines city of Cebu, a tiny internet café offers broadband connectivity with the outside world. In a place that lacks running water, the opportunities presented by the existence of the internet are boundless.
But along with these opportunities are the inherent risks posed by the net. A growing number of youths in the Philippines are being drawn into a dangerous world of sexual exploitation by foreigners they meet online.
A way to earn money
At the age of 15, Angel began connecting with foreign men in chat rooms.
“I had many friends chatting online,” he said. “They told me ‘Angel, it’s really nice to chat with the foreign guys because you can earn money.’”
For several hours every day, Angel is online with men from North America and Europe. “They tell me that, ‘I will send you money if you show me your body, your naked body,’ and yes I will show it, and they will send me money.”
The world he and his friends inhabit is the seedy collection of internet cafes, some of them with private cubicles, where teenagers can ‘perform’ on web-cams for foreign customers. Close by the new internet cafes that have been springing up in local cities, are the offices of remittance companies, where the teenagers can be paid instantly by their overseas clients.
A childhood lost
“I support my mother together with my sister and her kids, and my grandmother,” said Angel’s friend, Katrina, who has found himself the family’s bread winner at age 17. Like his friends, he earns up to 200 dollars per month.
These children may suffer from long-term psychological harm, in addition to missing the chance for an education. In order to surf online when European and American men are online, they need to be in the internet cafes while other children of school age are asleep.
At the Florencio Urot National High School in Cebu, teacher Loreto Roca, has seen a number of his pupils drop out of class. “They lose interest in their studies,” he said. “They can’t focus anymore. Eventually, they drop out of school.”
Socially responsible cafes
Recognising the harm being inflicted on so many teenagers, UNICEF is supporting initiatives around the Philippines to deal with the problem. A number of internet cafés have agreed to remove their private booths after one of these initiatives put pressure on them to do so.
UNICEF is also promoting a charter which lays down a code of conduct for internet cafes to follow to make them safer for children.
Mickey Tiangco runs one such internet café on the outskirts of Manila.
“Children have to be careful in meeting with strangers they meet in chat rooms,” he warned. “And for us, the shops, we have to be socially responsible.”
In his café, no children are allowed in at night, and signs are everywhere warning about the dangers for unsuspecting youngsters.
Back in Cebu, and hundreds of other cities like it, teenagers who make a living by chatting and performing on-line for foreign men know all about those risks. “Sometimes they come to the Philippines but I am afraid to meet up with them,” said Freda, age 16. “Because usually all they want to do is have sex.” (Rob McBride)

Ex-US Army Man Killed In Central Philippines
CEBU CITY, Philippines (Mindanao Examiner / July 15, 2008) – A former US Army soldier residing in Cebu province in central Philippines was found murdered inside his apartment, police said Tuesday.
Police said Billie Thomas Hannon was found dead Monday in his home in Lapu-Lapu City. The 70-year old retiree from Texas was believed strangled to death by burglars, police said.
No other details were made available by the authorities about the foreigner, but his neighbors claimed Hannon was living alone since he divorced his Filipino wife. (Mindanao Examiner)

Kalat ang balitang pinagbawalan diumano ni Vidal ang mga pari sa Cebu na magmisa kay Lozada ng ito’y dumating doon kamakalawa bilang bahagi ng kanyang pagiikot upang ipabatid sa publiko ang katotohanan sa overpriced NBN-ZTE deal.

Parak, Patay Sa Cebu Raid
CEBU (Mindanao Examiner / Dec. 11, 2007) – Isang parak ang napatay matapos itong pagbabarilin ng isa umanong suspek sa likod ng maraming patayan sa Cebu.
Nakilala ang biktima na si PO1 Noriel Luage na napatay kamakalawa ng hapon matapos nitong pasukin ang hideout ni Ramon Baclohan na siyang itinuturo na naa likod ng ibat-ibang krimen sa Cebu.
Napatay rin ng mga parak si Baclohan matapos itong mabaril sa gitna ng kaguluhan sa bahay nito. Isa si Baclohan sa mga umano'y target ng pulisya na dakpin dahil sa hinalang sabit ang mga ito sa maraming patayan.
Suspek rin sa Baclohan sa pagpatay sa isang Hapon sa Cebu nuong nakaraang buwan. Pinaghahanap pa umano ng pulisya ang iba pang kasamahan ni Baclohan na pawing mga gun-for-hire sa Cebu.
Nabatid na nagsi-served umano ng warrant si Luage ng ito'y salubungin ng sunod-sunod na putok ng baril na siyang kumitil sa buhay ng parak na kamakailan lamang ay kinilala ng mga awtoridad dahil sa pagkakahuli sa isa pang suspek sa likod ng maraming krimen sa lugar. (Mindanao Examiner)

Japanese Executive Killed In Central Philippines' Cebu Island
CEBU CITY, Philippines (Mindanao Examiner / Nov. 13, 2007) – A Japanese executive was killed in a gun attack Tuesday in the central Filipino province of Cebu, police said.
Police said two unidentified motorcycle gunmen ambushed Hiroshi Kosaka, 49, at a stop light on a highway in Mandaue City while on his way to the airport.
Kosaka, owner of the Hong Kong Travel and Tours in Cebu province, was with his Filipino girlfriend identified only by the police as Bianca, and a driver, Efren Rosales, when ambushed, police said.
Senior Superintendent Rodel Calungsod, city police force, ordered a thorough investigation into the killing of the foreigner.
“His two companions were unhurt in the attack,” a police officer, Gilbert dela Cruz, of the Mandaue City Police Office, told the Mindanao Examiner.“Investigations are going on and we still don’t know the motive of the killing.”
He said Kosaka’s car was heavily tinted and that he was sitting at the rear with his girlfriend, when the gunmen, both wearing a crash helmet, opened fire with a .45-caliber pistol killing the Japanese. Kosaka was to return to Japan when killed.
Extra-judicial killings are rampant in Cebu, a favorite holiday destination by Japanese and Koreans. (Mindanao Examiner)

Arroyo Praises Local Airline
PAGADIAN CITY, Philippines (Mindanao Examiner / 20 Sept) - President Gloria Arroyo praised local carrier South East Asian Airlines (SEAIR) for its commitment to help increase commercial activity and tourism in Mindanao by opening up new routes in the region.
The President recently graced the inaugural flight of SEAIR's Cebu-Pagadian-Cebu route which would make traveling easier and at the same time promote tourism and trade, the Philippine News Agency said.
The Clark-based SEAIR now flies to Cebu-Pagadian-Cebu every Mondays and Thursdays. The new route is part of the airline's expansion plans for the year.
SEAIR president Avelino Zapanta said the airline reaffirms its commitment to help increase commercial activity and tourism in Mindanao.
Since the opening of a regional hub in Zamboanga City in 2002, SEAIR currently flies daily to Sulu and Tawi-Tawi provinces in southern Philippines and to Cotabato three times a week.
Zapanta said SEAIR aims to bridge the Philippine islands by offering secondary and missionary routes to complement the trunk line routes serviced by other major players in the domestic airline industry.
The airline now flies to 15 local tourist destinations -- Manila, Caticlan (Boracay) and Cebu in Visayas; Clark in Northern Luzon; Busuanga, Cuyo, El Nido, Puerto Princesa City and Rodriguez in Palawan province, Camiguin, Cotabato, Sulu, Pagadian City, Tawi-Tawi province and Zamboanga City in Mindanao.
"Our Cebu-Pagadian route will make traveling for tourists and businessmen easier. Pagadian City has become more accessible, now only 35 minutes away from Cebu via SEAIR," Zapanta said.
Pagadian City is a first class city of Zamboanga del Sur and is the regional center of the Zamboanga Peninsula, the largest province of Western Mindanao.
It serves as gateway to the cities of Ozamis, Iligan and Cotabato.
"As the only local commercial airline offering inter-Mindanao flights, we at SEAIR feel that we have been a factor in the growth of commerce in the region. Our future focus is to develop tourism and international routes out of Zamboanga and Davao," said Zapanta.
For its Cebu-Pagadian route, SEAIR uses its 32-seater Dornier 328 aircraft -- the latest in a long line of technologically innovative aircraft manufactured by Germany’s Dornier.
The Dornier 328 is one of the fastest and most advanced jet propulsion in the world.
Aside from local expansion, SEAIR is positioning itself to enter the international market after its appointment as one of the official carriers for the Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia, Philippines East Asian Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) region.
Tourism Secretary Ace Durano said 2007 is a milestone year for Philippine tourism as more than 1.5 million foreign tourists arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in the first semester alone, an almost eight percent growth over the same period last year.
With more local and national efforts to promote the Philippines, the rate of tourism influx can go higher in 2010, he said.

Police Hunt For Killers Of Journalists In Cebu
MANILA (Mindanao Examiner / 04 Jul) – Police mounted a manhunt for the killers of a broadcaster who was shot in the central Philippine province of Cebu.
Geruncio Mondejar was shot and wounded on June 30 in Mandaue City and died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in the province, the Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility (CMFR) said.
Mondejar, a commentator with the radio station dyRB, was waiting for a ride when two motorcycle gunmen shot him at close range.
The local media watch dog, National Union of Journalists of the Philippines, condemned the killing, despite President Gloria Arroyo’s creation of a task force that will investigate murders of journalists in the country.
"Not a hundred 'Presidential Task Force Against Media Harassment' can stop attacks on journalists," the NUJP said.
Mondejar is the fifth journalist killed in 2007.
Last month, gunmen also killed a radio broadcaster Vicente Sumalpong and wounded another journalist Vema Andam, of the state-owned Radyo ng Bayan, in Tawi-Tawi province in southern Philippines.
More than five dozen journalists have been killed in line of duty since 1986 after the fall of the dictator President Ferdinand Marcos.

Mayor Ng Cebu, Umani Ng Batikos!
CEBU (Mindanao Examiner / 05 Jun) – Umani ng malaking batikos si Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña mula sa publiko dahil sa pagpapatigil nito sa konstruksyon ng isang maliit na paaralan dahil lamang sa diumano'y bengansa.
Nagalit umano si Osmeña sa Barangay chairman ng Lahug na si Mary Ann de los Santos ng sabihin nitong walang naitulong ang mayor sa nasabing lugar sa kasagsagan ng kampanya umano sa nakaraang halalan.
At dahil doon ay ipinatigil nito ang pagpapagawa sa paaralan na sana’y magagamit ng mga mahihirap na estudyante sa nasabing barangay.
Nais umano ni Osmeña na humingi ng tawad si Delos Santos sa pahayag, ngunit nagmatigas ang lider ng barangay at sa halip ay naglunsad ito ng “Piso Mo, Eskwelahan Mo“ fund drive at naguumapaw naman ang simpatya ng publiko sa kanya.
Nagambag-ambag na rin umano ang maraming mga residente upang makapangalap ng salaping magagamit sa pagtatapos ng paaralan. Nakarating naman ito sa pandinig ni Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia at agad naglabas ng resolusyon ang Provincial Board at nangakong magbibigay ng P5 milyong pondo bilang tulong.
Kaliwa’t –kanan naman ang batikos na tinanggap ni Osmeña sa naging desisyon nito. Tinanggal rin diumano ni Osmeña ang gasoline subsidy ng naturang barangay.
Pinuri naman ng publiko si Garcia at mga pulitikong tumugon sa sinapit ng Barangay Lahug.

Nagambag-ambag na rin umano ang maraming mga residente upang makapangalap ng salaping magagamit sa pagtatapos ng paaralan. Nakarating naman ito sa pandinig ni Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia at agad naglabas ng resolusyon ang Provincial Board at nangakong magbibigay ng P5 milyong pondo bilang tulong.
Kaliwa’t –kanan naman ang batikos na tinanggap ni Osmeña sa naging desisyon nito. Tinanggal rin diumano ni Osmeña ang gasoline subsidy ng naturang barangay.
Pinuri naman ng publiko si Garcia at mga pulitikong tumugon sa sinapit ng Barangay Lahug.

Gunman Assassinates Mayoralty Candidate In Central Philippines
CEBU (Mindanao Examiner / 02 May) – Unidentified gunman shot dead a mayoralty candidate in an attack Wednesday in Cebu, police said.
Police said Rogelio Ilustrisimo, who was running as mayor In Santa Fe town in Cebu’s Bantayan island, was killed instantly. The motive of the killing is still unknown, but police suspect the attack was probably connected to politics.
Filipinos are to elect their senators and congressman and local officials in the May 14 elections. Philippine elections are traditionally violent and bloody.
Just last week, a gunman killed Mayor Julian Resuello, of San Carlos City in Pangasinan province, north of Manila. One of his police escort was also killed in the attack.
Angelito Soriano, the suspect in the murder of the mayor, who was wounded in a firefight with police, has been arrested at a hospital in San Carlos City. (Mindanao Examiner)

Krimen Tumataas Sa Cebu
CEBU (Mindanao Examiner / 01 May) – Patuloy na tumataas ang krimen sa lungsod ng Talisay at alarmado na umano ang publiko sa halos pagiging inutile ng pulisya na mapigil ang mga karahasan.
Talamak umano ang holdapan at snatching sa mga mataong lugar. Hiling naman ng mga negosyante na magdagdag ng police beat patrol at mga undercover cops sa ibat-ibang lugar upang mapigilan ang paglaganap ng krimen.
Nuong kamakalawa lamang ay isang anak na babae ng municipal councilor sa lalawigan ang nabaril matapos na ito’y tumangging ibigay ang kanyang cell phone sa holdaper.
Nabaril sa kanyang dibdib si Trixia Mejias, 19, at anak ni Minglanilla Municipal Councilor Concordio Mejias. Kasalukuyang nasa pagamutan ang biktima.

Traffic Enforcer, Binira Sa Cebu!
CEBU (Mindanao Examiner / 03 Apr) – Tuliro ngayon ang pulisya matapos na mapatay ang isang traffic enforcer sa lungsod ng Mandaue.
Hindi pa mabatid ng pulisya kung sino ang nasa likod ng pagpatay kay Romeo Muñez, 38, kamakalawa sa Barangay Looc. Binira ito ng isang lalaking sakay ng motorsiklo.
Nabawi rin ng mga pulisya ang mga basyong bala ng .45-caliber pistol. Hindi naman mabatid kung sino ang nasa likod ng atake, subali’t talamak ang extra-judicial killings sa Cebu na ibinibintang naman ng mga kaanak ng maraming biktima sa mga awtoridad.

3 Tulak Ng Damo Timbog Sa Negros!
CEBU CITY (Mindanao Examiner / 06 Mar) – Nadakip ng pulisya ang umano’y tatlong lalaki na kilabot na tulak ng damo matapos ng isang operasyon sa Escalante City sa lalawigan ng Negros.
Sinabi ng pulisya kahapon na nasamsam rin ang mahigit sa apat na kilong libra ng marijuana mula kina Mark Estilloso, 20; Henry Villarin, 21; Rolex Villanueva, 21, rin sa isinagawang buy-bust operation sa Barangay Langub kamakalawa.
Matagal na umanong minamanmanan ng mga awtoridad ang tatlo dahil sa maraming reklamo mula sa mga magulang na talamak ang bentahan ng damo sa nasabing lugar.

Vigilante Killings Sa Cebu Natigil Na?
CEBU (Mindanao Examiner / 27 Feb) – Matapos ng halos 200 kaso ng sunod-sunod na pamamaslang ng mga umano’y vigilantes sa Cebu sa loob ng 2 taon ay buong tapang naman na sinabi ng pulisya wala ng magaganap na summary killings.
Ito’y matapos na batikusin ng United Nations at Estados Unidos ang walang habas na pagpatay sa mga political activists at mga inosenteng sibilyan sa bansa.
Umabot na sa mahigit 800 ang mga aktibistang napapatay at hindi pa kabilang ditto ang mga diumano’y vigilante killings sa Cebu, Davao at Zamboanga.
Sa Cebu ay ibinibintang ng mga kaanak ng bitkima ng pamamaslang sa mga awtoridad ito. Ilang ulit naman rin itong itinanggi ng pulisya.

ASEAN Summit Performers Rush To Hospital
CEBU (Mindanao Examiner / 14 Jan) – Some 120 mostly students were rushed to hospital in Cebu island in the central Philippines after they fell ill from eating meals served by a private caterer, reports said Sunday.
The victims were to perform a dance number Sunday on the gala dinner for the heads of states that attended the 12th ASEAN Summit in Cebu. Reports said the victims puked and complained of stomach ache after eating the packed meals.
No government officials or summit organizers were immediately available to make a statement. Reports said the victims were taken to the Perpetual Succor Hospital in Cebu for treatment.
The Philippines hosted the 12th Association of Southeast Asian Nations Summit which opened Wednesday in Cebu under tight security and shadow of possible terror attacks from the regional Jemaah Islamiya militants and al-Qaeda-affiliate Abu Sayyaf group.
President Gloria Arroyo said great stakes were involved in the continuing integration of the entire East Asia, which is driven by strong centripetal forces to close ranks for a safer and more secure community, open and equitable trade and cooperation in all fronts of energy development, and the prosperity of its diverse peoples.
Last year, Malaysia hosted the 11th ASEAN Summit and discussed seven main issues -- the spread of bird flu, southern Thailand conflict, democracy in Myanmar, crude oil prices fluctuation and poverty, investment and trade and an ASEAN charter.
The 12th ASEAN Summit was supposed to be held last month, but had been postponed because of a typhoon. The ASEAN is composed of Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. (Mindanao Examiner)

12th ASEAN Summit Begins In Cebu
CEBU (Mindanao Examiner / 10 Jan) – The 12th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit formally opened Wednesday in the central Filipino province of Cebu under tight security and shadow of possible terror attacks from the regional Jemaah Islamiya militants and al-Qaeda-affiliate Abu Sayyaf group.
Philippine authorities assured member nations that security is tight during the weeklong summit. Australia and other Western countries issued travel warning after citing intelligence reports that terrorists may be plotting to disrupt the Summit.
The ministerial meetings have begun and leaders were discussing issues that will further enhance cooperation, peace and economic development in Southeast Asia.
The two-day meetings held at the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) and the Mactan Shangri-La’s Mactan Island Resort and Spa were ahead of the ASEAN Leaders’ Summit on Jan. 13-15.
Simultaneous conferences by the ASEAN senior economic officials and the special ASEAN Standing Committee (ASC) and a meeting of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam senior officials and the special ASEAN Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) were also held on Wednesday.
President Gloria Arroyo said great stakes are involved in the continuing integration of the entire East Asia, which is driven by strong centripetal forces to close ranks for a safer and more secure community, open and equitable trade and cooperation in all fronts of energy development, and the prosperity of its diverse peoples.

“We stand at the threshold of great challenges and opportunities, and timely decisions will enable ASEAN and East Asia to seize the moment and the momentum to achieve broader human security, peace and prosperity at the grassroots of every village and community,” she said.
Ambassador Victoriano Lecaros, spokesman for the 12th ASEAN summit, said that the ministerial meetings will focus on various international and regional issues, review and discuss proposals to transform the vision of an ASEAN Community into a reality.
Parallel meetings with the ASEAN senior officials and economic ministers will be held on Thursday at Shangri-La Hotel where they will also meet with their counterparts from China, Japan, South Korea and India.
The ASEAN leaders, on the other hand, will also hold separate summits -- ASEAN Plus Three Summit and the 2nd East Asia Summit.Aside from the main summit meeting, the ASEAN leaders will also hold other summits, including the annual ASEAN sub-regional grouping’s summits such as the Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East Asia Growth Area, the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle and the Cambodia-Laos-Myanmar-Vietnam Grouping.
National Organizing Committee (NOC) Secretary General Ambassador Marciano Paynor Jr. earlier said some 50 meetings would be conducted from Jan. 10-15.
The ASEAN Economic Ministers will also finalize seven documents for signing during the Summit. The blueprint -- which will focus on how ASEAN could benefit from the elimination of tariff for the ASEAN-6 by 2010 and for the new ASEAN members by 2015 -- is one of the most important documents to be signed by the leaders.
Over the years, ASEAN has seen the growth of regional networks of non-governmental organizations.
One of the most active of these groups is the ASEAN Peoples’ Assembly, which is an important partner of ASEAN in moving forward its integration initiatives. Arroyo has chosen the theme for the 12th ASEAN Summit, entitled “One Caring and Sharing Community.”

Kapitolyo Ng Cebu, Sunog!
CEBU CITY (Mindanao Examiner / 26 Dec) – Limang gusali sa Cebu Provincial Capitol compound ang nasunog matapos na umano'y magliyab ang loob ng tanggapan ng Capitol Security Unit sa ikalawang palapag.
Ayon sa Bureau of Fire ay nagsimula ang sunog dakong 1.30 ng madaling araw ng Martes at kumalat ito sa iba pang mga tanggapan. Kabilang sa mga natupok ng apoy ay ang mga tanggapan ng Vice Mayor's League, isang cooperative ng Cebu Court of First Instance, General Services Office, Cebu Provincial Planning and Development Office at ang Philippine Information Agency.
Patuloy ang imbestigasyon sa sunog ngunit malaki ang hinala ng Bureau of Fire na posibleng faulty electrical wiring ang dahilan nito. Ngunit sinisipat rin ng mga awtoridad kung sinadya ang sunog upang pagtakpan ang anumang katiwalian sa mga tanggapan.
Nasunog rin umano ang bahagi ng tanggapan ng Integrated Bar of the Philippines, ayon sa isang bumbero. Hindi pa mabatid kung magkano ang pinsala sa sunog, ngunit tinatayang aabot ito sa mahigit P10 milyon.
Walang inulat na nasawi o sugatan sa sunog sa Cebu, subalit sa lungsod ng Ormoc ay 24 na katao ang kumpirmadong patay matapos na sumabog ang isang pagawaan ng paputok sa kaarawan ng Pasko.
Nasunog rin ang katabing department store nito kung kaya't na-trap umano ang maraming tao.Tinanggka pa ng mga ibang tumakas sa banyo ngunit nabigo ang mga ito.

Sinulog Festival, Tiyak Na Daragsain Sa Cebu
CEBU (Mindanao Examiner / 21 Dec) – Inasahang daragsain na naman ng mga dayuhang at lokal na turista ang lalawigan ng Cebu, hindi dahil sa ASEAN Summit, kundi sa tanyag na Sinulog Festival.
Naudlot man ang ASEAN Summit nitong buwan dahil sa bagyo at banta ng terorismo ay siguradong walang atrasan ang Sinulpg Festival – bumagyo man hindi – dahil sa naging tradisyon na ito tuwing sasapit ang Enero, ayon sa mga organizers nito.
Alay ito sa Sto. Nino at sa tuwing Sinulog Festival ay libo-libong mga deboto ang tradisyonal na nagtutungo sa Cebu upang magbigay ng pasasalamat at magdasal. At sa mga turista ay kasiyahan naman ang naghihintay sa kanilang pagdating at tipong Rio Carnival at mardigras ang tema ng Sinulog Festival.

Trade Fair To Showcase Visayan Products
CEBU CITY - Cebu City will host a five-day trade fair that will showcase different products from the central Philippine region, organizers said Thursday.
The trade fair, dubbed as "Visayas - One Town One Product-Philippines," or OTOP-Philippines will be held on Nov. 23 at the SM Trade Hall.
The Department of Trade and Industry and the Department of Tourism said thousands of people are expected to flock to the fair to see homegrown products from the three Visayas regions.
The OTOP-Philippines is a priority program of the government to promote entrepreneurship and create jobs all over the country. Tourism and investment is promoted by capitalizing on culture and the ingenuity of the people, organizers said.
Under the OTOP-Philippines, the local government units (LGU) take the lead in identifying, developing and promoting a specific product or service, of which their areas have specific advantage.
The chief executives of each city and municipality have the task of consolidating services needed by industries to develop as a trademark for their respective localities.
OTOP-Philippines provides a comprehensive assistance package through a convergence of services from LGUs, national government agencies and the private sector. This includes business counseling, skills and entrepreneurial training, product design and development, appropriate technologies and marketing.
The DTI said the OTOP-Philippines is designed to support micro, small and medium enterprises (SME's) in the manufacturing and marketing of distinctive products and services to a much better level and achieve measurable results.
